Flight criteria & data sources
The worst relevant factor determines GOOD / SO-SO / DON'T FLY. All times use Europe/Bratislava, including daylight-saving changes. Weather is a model estimate, not an airfield measurement.
- Wind at 10 m:
- Gusts:
- Sun elevation: > 15° GOOD; 10–15° SO-SO. At 5–10°: SO-SO, except inside the flying zone below 7.5° → DON'T FLY. At 0–5°: DON'T FLY inside the zone, SO-SO outside. Below 0°: DON'T FLY due to lack of daylight. Geometric solar centre; no terrain or refraction correction.
- Precipitation: includes rain, showers and snow. Hourly amounts cover the preceding hour; current amounts cover the returned current interval.
- Temperature: Weather thresholds are personal planning limits, not airfield rules; the 7.5° sun split remains a prototype assumption.
Pilot View shows your flying zone and the sun’s position for the selected date. Horizontal position is azimuth; height is solar elevation. The dashed line is the daylight sun path and the 15° line is an elevation reference, not a flight-height limit. The 360° view is unfolded; directional views use a curved projection. Sun outside the view is not moved into frame. The slider previews the sun only; weather stays at the selected hour. Terrain and landmarks are illustrative.
Weather: Open-Meteo, CC BY 4.0. Sun position: local calculation using NOAA solar equations.
Hide night hours applies to every forecast row: only timestamps from one hour before local sunrise to one hour after local sunset are kept. Sunrise and sunset are calculated locally at solar elevation −0.833° (standard sunrise convention). This filter does not change flight ratings or the exact next-24-hour interval.
Best window = longest contiguous GOOD interval remaining from the displayed hour on its local date, evaluated every 10 minutes using the enclosing hourly forecast and the solar position at that time. If no GOOD interval exists, the longest SO-SO interval is shown. No window is suggested when every remaining interval is DON'T FLY.
